Real World Learning
Students have several opportunities to engage in real world, hands-on learning experiences in Upper School. More than 50 clubs integrate a service component in their activities. Our Communications and Technology Internships and Livestream Team involve students in the daily operations of the school. Mentorships between divisions help students of all ages build relationships. Partnerships with outside organizations create pipelines for student learning beyond Buckley. Trips to various U.S. and international destinations always provide a component of service and transformational reflection.

Do you want to take Filmmaking, Ceramics, Climate Science, Sports and Society, Latin American Literature, Costume and Fashion Design, or choose from a catalog of courses that will spark your curiosity and blow your mind.

Maybe you’d like to participate on a team, or be a manager? Maybe you’re more of a spirited onlooker and you enjoy attending the games and cheering on your friends? Better yet, maybe you’ll join the Stream Team, and work behind the scenes to livestream the games!
Technology and Innovation Program
How about joining the Griffitrons, the Buckley robotics team? Will you be building the robot, or writing code to make it move? Maybe you are not a techy but can write an amazing business plan for the team and help with the marketing on Buckley’s social media?
Iowa Nonfiction Writing Program
Travel to Iowa University in the spring and be a part of Buckley’s unique partnership with the prestigious Nonfiction Writing Program there, learning side by side with graduate students. Or maybe you’d prefer to work with the yearbook staff or the Student Voice newspaper, which comes out monthly on Fridays. There’s also the editorial board of the Oxford Comma, Buckley’s twice-a-year literary magazine.

Advanced Studies Program
Buckley’s new Advanced Studies curriculum challenges students who are seeking deeper learning opportunities in academic areas.
